West Africa, 1768. Maryam, age 10, is abducted by slave traders, but a pirate captures the ship, freeing all the captives on board. But it does not last, and Maryam ends up enslaved. Years later, Maryam lives in Ohio with her daughter and her grandchildren when a visitor arrives with information that brings her story full circle.
